Wageningen University and Research – Trial medicinal cannabis

In 2015/2016, Oreon (water-cooled LED lighting) and Grodan (rock wool substrate) approached WUR with the request to investigate the cultivation of medicinal cannabis, and in particular the influence of their products on this cultivation.

In 2017, the LCC approached these two pioneers, requesting to collaborate with many other parties in the global horticultural sector, to conduct a joint cultivation study in which all aspects of cultivation in a greenhouse were covered by specialists.

We started January 2018 with these 12 parties, with the following points of attention:

  • Rooting, cuttings
  • Mothers
  • Tissue culture
  • Light, darkening
  • Climate
  • Photosynthesis
  • Water, food, fertilizers
  • Nanobubbles
  • Fresh weight, dry weight
  • Ingredients (THC, CBD)
  • Cultivation optimization
  • Botrytis, mildew, whitefly
  • New cultivars

In 2019/2020 we invited various parties from genetics as well as LP’s to share knowledge and experiences with each other.

Pest, fungus and disease control, light intensity, humidity etc. all have a different influence on the amount of cannabis varieties.

In addition, (large-scale) cultivation in a greenhouse, taking into account four seasons, requires the right knowledge and, above all, experience for optimal cultivation.

The LCC is happy to share this experience with you.
